We both had a good night sleep and decided to continue on as there was less rain forecasted then expected. But before we left i went to see where all the fun and noise was happening yesterday afternoon.

We packed everything and cycled a couple of kilometer to the supermarket where we got breakfast. From there on we continued along the Maas until Dinant instead of following the route.

Cycling along the Maas

Cycled 3.8km, climbed 23m, currently at 95m high.

From Dinant on we followed the route again and climbed up to the plateau. From there on we had some single tracks again. Most of it was ok but one part had really thick clay mud which seemed to adhere to everything.

Cycled 14.9km, climbed 221m, currently at 211m high.

As we gradually continued we came across a great spot to have lunch, if the weather would have been nicer. Today was again a day filled with drizzle and rain. Most of the time it was doable but the major issue is that you get sweaty when you have a rainjacket on and then start to get cold because you’re all wet, which is not fun at all.

Cycled 22.7km, climbed 350m, currently at 149m high.

Around 12:20 we arrived at a friterie and decided to have lunch there and get warmed up at the same time. We also visited the patissier next door afterwards for a coffee and yummy stuff 😇

Mitraillette

Cycled 31.9km, climbed 522m, currently at 261m high.

Afterwards we continued on to the abbey of Maredsous and skipped a part of the route. We had some rain on the way but luckily most of the way there was on asphalt. At the abbey we found a spot outside to have a beer and a glimpse of the sun (i think we saw it appear 3 times! Amaaaazing 😜). In the end we stayed there for 1.5 hours to skip the rain.

Rain, rain, rain

Cycled 45.0km, climbed 750m, currently at 224m high.

During the last couple of days we co-developed a new technology to combat all the nettles we come across. It’s easily stored on the bike and can be fetched on really short notice. The material is especially selected to have the right strength and just the right amount of whipping power to quickly deal with any nettles. We call it the NettlesStick or (‘TingelsStok’ in dutch 😜). It’s a hand selected wooden stick, preferably from hazelnut wood. Further specifications are available on request 😇.

Cycled 48.6km, climbed 753m, currently at 141m high.

The camping we found is one of the worst we ever had. The restrooms and showers look horrible but our camping spot is ok. So we just skipped the shower and did a quick washup.

And now we’re in a restaurant where we luckily got wifi as there is no cell reception in the area. Tomorrow we’ll be heading towards Profondeville and depending on the weather and how we feel we’ll skip part of the route, or not.

See you tomorrow!
