USA - Day 28 - Oakzanita campground - Sweetwater campground
This is the route we cycled today
We had a late start around 9:00 because we knew that although we had 72km planned it was only around 650m up and 1 700m down.
The first section was a bit of uphill and of course we got sweaty. The struggle on deciding on when to wear a jacket or not stays, even after a month of practice ;-)
After a while we got a nice view and catched our first glimpse of San Diego, our end destination.
San Diego baby!
Cycled 11.9km, climbed 223m, currently at 1106m high.
We came across a McDonalds and decided to have a coffee and breakfast. Breakfast at McDonalds is pretty ok when you’re cycling :)
Egg McMuffin
We weren’t expecting to have such a beautiful route today as we’re so close to San Diego.
Valley near San Diego
Cycled 39.2km, climbed 414m, currently at 331m high.
While going down on a sand road I managed to narrowly evade a snake. We decided to turn back and go look and I think it was a baby rattlesnake.
Baby rattlesnake?
Cycled 68.0km, climbed 555m, currently at 77m high.
We had a lot of singletrack today which was a beautiful way to ride on our last full day of riding. The views were a bit less because of all the civilisation.
Singletrack pause
Cycled 69.8km, climbed 593m, currently at 96m high.
And of course we had one last steep uphill single track to tackle. We could have ridden around it but the route was pointing this way so we powered through and got to the top.
Steep single track
Cycled 70.7km, climbed 650m, currently at 148m high.
We got to our campsite around 15:30 and got set up and got showered. We had dinner at a Mexican restaurant and tomorrow we only have 30km or so to ride and we’ll do some shopping on the way.
I’ll probably post once more and them I’m off to home.
See you tomorrow!
