USA - Day 24 - Oakzanita campground - Blair Valley
This is the route we cycled today
We discovered yesterday that our alcohol stove isn’t burning properly and is generating a lot of sooth. So we tried to find some gas canisters at the campground but had no luck.
We got started at 08:10 and started with a climb up to 1700m. It was a bit cloudy and chilly so we rode with long gloves and our rain jacket.
The road up
Cycled 35.8km, climbed 974m, currently at 1308m high.
After a while we hit some singletrack which was really nice. It was cool to see this yellow grass meadow.

When we were at the top it was noon and a couple of kilometres further was a picnic place so we had lunch there. It was real windy and we got cold pretty fast so we didn’t stay long. We stopped by a viewpoint and although it was pretty the wind was too strong so we moved a long quickly.

From here on we did a section of road and the wind was blowing really strong here. I almost got blown off the road a couple of times. But luckily a singletrack was waiting on us.
Through the high grass
Cycled 35.8km, climbed 974m, currently at 1436m high.
After a while we hit the descent and the road gradually got worse. And then we came across a guy with a motorbike (with regular road tires ) who was trying to turn around his bike. We helped him out and continued on. The road got even worse from here on. It was insane that this guy even got that far down. Hopefully he got back up alright.
I know this looks ok but it was one of the worst roads we tackled
Cycled 35.8km, climbed 974m, currently at 1178m high.
We continued down and Bart said that we will need to go back up this road in a couple of days. I was like nooo way that’s going to be hell.
So when we arrived at our campground we searched for alternatives but there aren’t many roads in this area. As we’re out of gas we also don’t really have the possibility to have a hot meal. But we’ll find something ☺️
See you tomorrow!
