USA - Day 22 - Ramona - Cedar Creek
This is the route we cycled today
When we arrived in Ramona 2 days ago we were both pretty tired. We looked at the plan for the rest of the trip and we couldn’t find a good and affordable spot to have another restday. So we decided to take an extra day in Ramona.
Yesterday we didn’t do anything except go to the supermarket. We watched television and ate the whole day 🤣
Today we knew we had a route planned that wasn’t going to take the whole day so we left the hotel at 10:50. A large part of the route was on roads so it was pretty easy. At a certain point we noticed we were making too much progress so we turned back for a couple of kilometres to get some coffee.
When we were almost at the trailhead we started to get some paths that were running behind the houses. Nice to be away from the cars.
Path behind the houses
Cycled 22.5km, climbed 316m, currently at 490m high.
When we were at the trailhead we took the time to eat our apples and look at the valley we would be descending into. At this point there is a trail to a waterfall for which you need a permit but we weren’t going to the waterfall so we didn’t need one.
The valley
Cycled 25.3km, climbed 392m, currently at 461m high.
We descended down on a pretty tricky path and at a certain point we needed to cross a small stream by walking over rocks. At first glance we were a bit alarmed but we soon found out that one side was not that deep which allowed us to push our bikes through while stepping on the stones.
The crossing
Cycled 27.6km, climbed 393m, currently at 277m high.
After this we had to climb up to our campingspot. It was a cool path which was quite technical. We were both a bit amazed at how fluent we were tackling this trail. Let’s hope the following days will stay smooth 🤞
The path up
Cycled 28.8km, climbed 498m, currently at 383m high.
When we were at the top we had to go down a small bit to our camping spot. The sign at the start of the road gave us a lot of confidence 😉 We know by now that Americans like their warning signs so we weren’t worried.
The warning sign
Cycled 31.2km, climbed 702m, currently at 583m high.
Our campspot is pretty ok (the route we’re following indicated that this was a good spot to camp). We have a river nearby so that’s good but the ground isn’t too flat (but what do you expect when you’re camping in the wild).
We had noodles for dinner and now I’m laying in my tent and the wind is picking up again. I know I’m going to be fine but I’m still uncomfortable with all those noises ☺️
Tomorrow is going to be a heavy climb so let’s hope everything is going to go smooth!
See you tomorrow!
