USA - Day 19 - Idyllwild - Atáxam Mámta’ash Campground
This is the route we cycled today
Yesterday evening we got rain but luckily we were already in our tent. In the morning everything was pretty moist as expected. We got going at 08:00.
First was a descend (and a small climb) back down. We stopped at the same place we had breakfast yesterday and had breakfast again 😇 As we cycled in the rain for multiple hours after this we were happy that we had done this. Otherwise we had to eat tortillas in the rain.
From here on we had long stretches of straight road some going up others going down.
Straight ahead!
Cycled 34.6km, climbed 320m, currently at 1208m high.
We did get to the sand and that’s when the rain started. We had to go up to 1 500m and it seems that that high up the rain just stayed there.
On the sandy roads
Cycled 44.1km, climbed 422m, currently at 1212m high.
As you can see on the next picture everything was getting wet but we just kept going. There wasn’t any alternative or shelter available so it was the only option.
Rain
When we got down the rain started to go away and we arrived almost dry at our campsite. It’s a nice and quiet place. We had noodles for dinner. It’s our preferred meal when we don’t have acces to running water.
Dinner time
Cycled 49.9km, climbed 607m, currently at 1354m high.
Today went better as yesterday although I’m still tired but maybe the reason is that we have already cycled 16 days with an average of 50km and 1 000m elevation on mostly offroad roads 😇
Tomorrow evening we’ll sleep in a hotel!
