We got up at 06:30 to pack things up and eat breakfast. We got the nice sound of a running generator as a bonus 🤪

The first 12 kilometres were really easy downhill and we were in Joshua Tree city before we knew it. We ate some American breakfast and got some coffee before continuing on.

It was a shallow climb to the west entrance of the park. When we arrived there was a queue of cars but we cycled on to the entrance. A nice lady helped us with the entrance and camping fees.

On entering the park we catched a first glimpse of the landscape which is really amazing and almost surreal.

Almost the whole route today was on asphalt with nice and easy climbing. We still took regular stops to drink something and look at the mesmerising nature of the park.

When we were in the middle of the park we took the time to make some coffee and eat our famous tortilla lunch.

After lunch we headed towards Barkerdam. It’s a place were cattle ranchers build a dam around the 1900s to retain water for their animals. Today there is no water in it but when there is there should be wildlife here. We walked a small loop and also saw a couple of petroglyphs.

After Barkerdam we hit a 5 kilometre long dirt road. It was really nice to cycle without cars passing and it was cool to be surrounded with all those joshua trees.

After the dirt road we cycled towards Ryan campground. On the way there I saw a cool tree to take a picture.

Once at the campground we set up our tents, checked our bikes for loose bolts and made instant noodles for dinner. It’s a really quiet spot and we’re hoping the clouds clear up so we can see some stars.
