Sauerland - Day 2 - Faulebutter - Schmallenberg
This is the route we biked today
Breakfast was served at 08:30 so we only started biking at 09:30. We got warmed up quickly with a first steep climb.
Ready to get started
The initial route was on asphalt but we followed a gravel road and got rewarded with some cool views. Sauerland is indeed a beautiful place.
Our reward for going gravel
Cycled 2.2km, climbed 88m, currently at 581m high.
At the top there was a viewpoint so we took the opportunity to take a rest there. A lot of pine trees had grown since the viewpoint was installed so there was not a lot of view there 🤣
Taking a rest at the viewpoint
From there on we descended towards Eslohe where we planned to do our resupply. We went to the Aldi and had an early lunch in the city park.
Descending with a view of Eslohe
Afterwards we rode a couple of kilometers through a valley and started a climbing again. We had to ride through a farm and we noticed a sign indicating dogs were roaming freely. Of course they came barking at us and one decided to start following me while growling and eyeballing my (moving) leg. I started to get a bit afraid of being bitten and luckily my dad yelled at the dog and he stopped 😰. After the climb was finished we took a rest and enjoyed the view.
Enjoying the view
After this we descended to a small village but there were no options to get a drink so we started with the last climb. Our first planned route had all asphalt so we tried other offroad routes but had to turn back to the asphalt road. We did manage to circumvent a big road so we were happy with our route at the end. At the top was a hut so we decided to have a last rest before descending to our destination.
Taking a rest at the top
We started at 09:30 and were finished by 16:15. Our route today was nicer than yesterday as we had nice views and were alone in the woods for most of the time.
See you tomorrow!
