Luxemburg - day 3 - Kopstal - Viande
This is the route we biked today
We started with a search: the key of my dad’s bike (to lock the battery). It was nowhere to be found and we were already thinking on how we would get back to the car. After breakfast we asked to open up the garage to get our bikes and there it was! Still on the bike 😂
We found the key!!
Yesterday evening we took a look at the beginning of our route and it was insanely steep. We looked at a local map and saw that there was also a road that was next to the hill instead of going up and back down and back up again. We took that route (and it was nice!) but we still had to climb the hill at end. The reward was a field of yellow rapeseed.
The gold at the top of the climb
Cycled 59.2km, climbed 825m, currently at 236m high.
Untill noon we followed an awesome bikepath following the railroad. It was nice and easy to pedal along an asphalt road.
– Happy faces on the bikepath
The bikepath led to the discovery of a cool ruin. What pleased me even more was the Dixi which was positioned in front (i guess you can imagine the reason why)
Ruin with a toilet
Cycled 60.9km, climbed 830m, currently at 201m high.
At lunch we decided to extend our route with the bikepath. It was a little bit longer but it allowed us to skip a part of road. The downside was a steep climb but we got to the top :-)
A part of the climb
Cycled 6.1km, climbed 154m, currently at 364m high.
As we were making good progress (it almost felt like a semi rest day at this point) we took the opportunity to take a couple of rests. During our rests my dad’s GPS got the opportunity to recharge as well.
One of our rest places
Cycled 12.7km, climbed 186m, currently at 219m high.
It was awesome weather today and whenever we had a nice view we took the opportunity to enjoy it.
Enjoying the view
Cycled 17.5km, climbed 195m, currently at 215m high.
And we even found a nice terrace at a camping so we drank 2 colas and enjoyed the weather.
Having a drink
Cycled 29.5km, climbed 316m, currently at 280m high.
You might start thinking: “they just had a chill day” and you’re almost right but our end was strong: a 5km climb (because we wanted woods and not roads!)
Our last climb
Cycled 33.4km, climbed 437m, currently at 322m high.
We were almost in Vianden when we discovered that our route pointed us up a steep climb with stairs.
The trail with stairs our route was planned over
Cycled 40.2km, climbed 516m, currently at 299m high.
We decided that this wasn’t worth our effort so we turned back and used a bikepath to ride into Vianden.
Our entry into Vianden
Cycled 45.0km, climbed 548m, currently at 181m high.
Today was another awesome day and it almost felt like a semi rest day. Tomorrow is going to be around 44km but we’re going to have to do some climbing to get back to the car.
Good night everybody!
